OK, We don't want the list to be a cyber-police state, but there are a few rules we need to stick to, simply to ensure all members get the most out of the list, and the signal-to-noise ratio is kept pretty balanced, so here goes:

The Purpose

The MITB List is intended as a forum where professionals engaged in web design can exchange comments, ideas, questions, critique, and forlorn cries for help. It is not intended as a playground for rude, obnoxious, discourteous or disrespectful exchanges. Topics suitable for discussion include:

  • Web Design
  • Web Authoring
  • Web Programming
  • Available Technology in The Bahamas
  • New Technology & Standards

Any messages related to the topics listed above are encouraged.

**Any messages not related to the topics listed above are discouraged. **

Culture

The founder of the The List believes that it is a matter of personal and community responsibility to enforce restraint and care when communicating within a forum. No action will be taken against any member of the list without strong community disapproval of that person's posts and even then only after warnings have been given.

We believe that we are professionals, and as such should be allowed to use any language necessary to promote a point, and that the disapproval of one's peers is the best measure of the line between a flame and a strong statement of opinion.

If you do not have anything to add to a discussion, please do not contribute. If you do have something to add to the discussion, feel free to contribute.

Some guidelines for posting, responding, and generally making a helpful contributor of yourself:

  • don't send subscribe and unsubscribe messages to the list
  • don't send spam or other unsolicited email to the list
  • don't send commercial posts to the list. This is not a forum for advertising your company
  • don't send virus warnings to the list
  • don't send HTML email to the list
  • REALLY - don't send HTML email to the list
  • don't flame anyone unless they really deserve it and recognize that you may be seen as a bigger jerk than the person you're flaming
  • when asking for site critique, supply a few questions and things to look out for (such as colormap problems, layout, consistency, or browsers/platforms which you specifically want feedback from)
  • don't post to the list if you're on crack.
